Bilston Primary serves the catchment of Bilston and the surrounding area, within Midlothian Council’s Education Division. Our catchment includes areas of local authority housing and private housing, including two extensive new housing estates.
Bilston is part of Beeslack Associated Schools’ Group which includes Beeslack High School, Roslin and Mauricewood Primary Schools. It is a co-educational, non-denominational school.
Our pupil role is currently 250 from Early Years - P7; 218 from P1-P7 and 32 children in our ELC.
An Enhanced Class was established in October 2021 to meet the needs of a specific group of learners on the Autism spectrum. They follow the curriculum in their mainstream class and benefit from additional, enhanced support throughout the week from both the EC teacher and an LA.
The Senior Leadership Team comprises the Head Teacher and a Principal Teacher.
Relationships amongst children, staff and parents are key to the positive, nurturing ethos that we strive to create and maintain at Bilston Primary which is a very caring, inclusive school.
KNOWLEDGE
Post holder must hold at least a practitioner level qualification, HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7; or SVQ Social Services (Children & Young people) at SCQF 7 or equivalents that meet the requirements for SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) registration e.g.
SVQ 3 Child Care and Education
SVQ 3 Early Years Care and Education
SVQ Children’s Care learning and Development SCQF 7
HNC Childcare and Education.
HNC Working with Children in Early Years.
HNC Early Education and Childcare (at SCQF level 7).
Qualifications which were previously recognised for SNNEB/NNEB registration may be acceptable.
An up to date first aid certificate is also required.

Position Title: Early Years Practitioner

Contract Status: Fixed Term until 10/10/2025
Hours of Work: 36 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday– Thursday - 8.00am – 4.00pm; Friday – 8.00am – 2.30pm (30 mins daily for lunch)
Weeks per year: 39
Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 36 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £26,080.51per annum.
Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
