The Role
The APS 6 Security Advisor is responsible for:
* Conducting Security Officer (SO), Government Special Access Program Security Officer (GSSO) and Communications Intelligence Security Officer (COMSO) duties/activities to support Air Warfare Centre (AWC) outcomes and objectives.
* Understanding the security risk context within the Defence environment to provide advice on complex protective security matters to mitigate risk.
* Building and sustaining productive and collaborative relationships with whole of government stakeholders to achieve protective security objectives.
* Evaluating and assessing activities and processes to identify and initiate innovative solutions to enable continuous improvement to security posture.
* Managing security surveys and inspections to ensure secure facility accreditation requirements are achieved and maintained.
* Researching and analysing protective security issues to produce high quality reports, submissions, briefings and discussion papers.
A high level of attention to detail is required in order to provide appropriate governance assurance to ensure the security compliance for secure facilities. The position will be responsible for providing guidance and oversight to subordinate programs within the Air Warfare Centre.
About our Team
This position is part of a small team of Australian Public Service (APS) and uniformed security professionals working within the Headquarters of Air Force's Air Warfare Centre (AWC). The team is responsible for delivering a holistic security effect across all AWC activities.
This includes:
* Security planning for trials and exercises.
* Security Risk Assessment (SRA) and Security Risk Management (SRM).
* Security support, guidance and advice for AWC Executives, Security Officers and other personnel.
* Security guidance, advice and oversight for projects and facility works.
* Security governance and compliance to ensure continued accreditation of secure facilities.
The APS 6 Lead GSSO will have one APS 5 direct report and will provide guidance and mentoring of uniformed assistant GSSOs within the team.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role will have demonstrated experience working in a high security workplace undertaking GSSO, or similar, duties. They will have high attention to detail and sound working knowledge of the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF), security policy and applying security risk management.
The successful applicant will:
* Have high level written communication skills and be able to draft security standing instructions and internal security guidance documents.
* Be comfortable working within a small team and providing guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced personnel within the high-security environment.
