My client South Gloucestershire Council are looking for a Paralegal Assistant. We are looking for approx. 22 hours per week, days to be mutually agreed. Assignment to last approx. 3 months initially, with a view to extending. Work that assignment will cover: Advise social workers on the Re X process to authorise a deprivation of liberty in the community and filing the application with the court. Keep a record of the progress of cases filed with the court, the orders made and follow this up with social workers to ensure that the Local Authority complies with court orders. Assist solicitors by completing applications to the court under section 16 Mental Capacity Act 2005 for welfare orders, updating bundles, e-filing orders, obtaining sealed orders and actioning court directions. Undertake legal research for solicitors and provide advice to the client department on care and support, mental health law and education law. Attend round table meetings and court hearings with counsel, where necessary. Experience Required The candidate will have a law degree or CILEx level 6 Diploma in Law and Practice or relevant post-graduate qualification. Experience of working in a legal department, with particular emphasis on adult social care work, mental capacity issues or education law, ideally in a Local Authority setting. Knowledge of Adult Social Care law and court processes - essential. Able to work as part of a team under pressure within tight timescales and have the ability to build and maintain positive working arrangements with colleagues, clients and all other relevant parties.
