Satellite Communications Technician (OR)
Location: Croughton, United Kingdom
The Satellite Communications Technician position will provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of a teleport site. The Satellite Communications Technician (OR) will perform the following tasks:
1. Provide communication and non-communications functions as set forth in this PWS for full time (24 hours/day, 7 days/week) support for the DoD Gateway Systems, earth terminals with associated shelters.
2. Be responsible for the management, personnel training, operation, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, monitoring, reporting, and operation and preventive maintenance.
3. Meet all identified response and restoral times.
4. Abide by all local labor laws and regulations.
5. Provide services including real time transmission systems configuration control, circuit restoration, circuit activation, circuit deactivation, quality control and performance standards, status reporting, master station log, and other actions required by policies, responsibilities and operational procedures contained in DISAC 310-70-1 Chapter 2.5.
6. Apply the performance standards and quality control standards contained in DISAC 300-175-9 and DISAC 310-70-57.
7. Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret clearance.
8. Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.
9. Must possess three (3) years experience in communications software, hardware or networks.
10. Specific experience required includes protocol analysis, knowledge of OSI protocol (TCP/IP, X.25.X 400, and X.500).
11. Experience with ATM, frame relay, bridges, routers, gateways, FDDI, and UNIX operating systems is required.
12. Knowledge of strategic SATCOM terminals; C, Ku, X, and Ka bands.
13. Knowledge of test equipment and their operation.
14. Knowledge of strategic UHF systems.
15. Good communication and writing skills.
16. CNE or ECNE experience is desired, as well as supervising the operation and maintenance of communication network systems, mainframe, mini or client/server based.
17. Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering preferred OR an Associates degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience OR 11 total years of total specialized experience.
