The primary purpose for this Research Assistant role is to support in the organisation, delivery, and data analysis related to an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) funded project entitled ‘Backyard Bugs: Fostering Eco-Empathy through Creative Workshops in Local Primary Schools'. The Principal Investigator for this project is Dr Christina Thatcher and the Co-Investigator is Dr Lisa El Refaie. This project will harness the power of creativity to increase Welsh primary school children’s awareness of insects. Working with the Cardiff Council Curriculum Team, CU’s Widening Participation Team, the conservation charity Buglife, and teachers from Ely and Caerau, we will develop and deliver drawing and creative writing workshops across local primary schools to foster eco-empathy for insects. The workshops will lead to a community exhibition and the development of accessible, scalable resources for teachers across Wales. Activities and Responsibilities The Research Assistant will be expected to: participate in project team meetings provide administrative and research support (i.e. scanning and labelling data and evaluations, printing materials for the workshops, etc) conduct a preliminary analysis of the data support the organisation of the exhibition help disseminate the resource Person Specification Essential: Working knowledge of qualitative research methods Effective organisational skills, including time management Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written Ability to work independently and as part of team Desirable: Experience of transcription Knowledge and / or experience of arts-based research methods Please outline your relevant experience and skills in your application.
