Crucible Pharmacy Limited (CPL), a dynamic and forward-thinking wholly owned subsidiary of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH), is looking for a temporary full or part time Pharmacist to work primarily at the Northern General Hospital (although there will be a requirement to work at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital). Following the acquisition of two stores from Boots, CPL has completed refurbishments at both sites. Complemented by new investments in robotic dispensing systems, CPL is at the forefront of enhancing pharmacy services across STH. Main duties of the job
To act as Responsible Pharmacist in the absence of the Pharmacist Unit Manager and ensure that all activities are consistent with GPhC registration requirements.
To coordinate and contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Pharmacy, which will include clinical checks of prescriptions, advice and information to patients and staff, and dispensing of hospital outpatient and discharge prescriptions.
To work with the wider multi-disciplinary team to enhance and develop the outpatient pharmacy service, reviewing pathways to optimise care.
Job responsibilities
* To act as the Responsible Pharmacist, being a positive role model, flexible and participating in all areas of pharmacy practice within the outpatient setting.
* To supervise and plan the day-to-day workload of the dispensary ensuring efficient workflow and prioritisation.
* To allocate, organise and monitor the work of relevant pharmacy staff.
* To ensure cover for dispensary, referring to pharmacist unit manager when necessary.
* To be responsible for problem solving and making judgments involving a range of situations which may require analysis (e.g., fault finding on tracking system and automation, amending stock/financial discrepancies, staffing other areas, workflow).
* To ensure competent use of Prescription Tracking System producing relevant reports/data to ensure dispensary standards are achieved and maintained. Complete and analyse daily feedback report.
* To contribute to the development, implementation and provision of effective training and ensure staff competence across relevant staff groups.
* To contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) covering each of the aspects of the management of medicines.
* To implement clinical policies and procedures under the supervision of the Pharmacy Unit Manager.
* To record and investigate dispensing errors and near misses in a timely manner, taking appropriate actions to minimise further risks or incidents.
* To clinically screen and check prescriptions, resolving queries as and when identified.
* To maintain the day-to-day management, ordering, receiving, storing and recording and auditing of CDs under the direction of the Pharmacy Unit Manager.
* To be responsible for the day-to-day activities connected to the supply, ordering and receipt of medicines.
* To counsel patients on their medications, offering advice and answering queries both face to face and over the telephone.
* To ensure appropriate and effective use of the medicines formulary, high-cost drugs and home-care medication.
* To assist in the collection of performance indicators including workload data, error rates, prescription turnaround times and any other KPIs.
* To become trained to an advanced level on the automated dispensing systems, acting as a designated super-user to assist Operational staff with problem solving and retrievals. In the absence of pharmacist unit manager, organising the workload in the dispensary if the system fails.
* To deal effectively with general enquiries and complaints, ensuring that all communication by the post-holder (verbally, electronically, by letter etc) with patients, relatives, carers, prescribers, pharmacists, staff, other health care professionals is of a high standard.
* To develop and maintain positive working relationships to facilitate efficient and effective services.
* To maintain and update accurate pharmacy records relating to computer systems etc under the guidance of the Pharmacy Unit Manager.
* To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary sectors.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GPHC registered
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
Experience
* Post-registration experience as a Responsible Pharmacist in a busy community or hospital pharmacy.
* Able to work under pressure in a busy environment.
* NHS Hospital prescribing awareness (formularies, etc.) which may have been achieved through dispensing hospital outpatient scripts or review of discharge prescriptions in community.
* Decisive - able to make decisions with limited or ambiguous information.
* Experience of leading a team in a busy dispensary environment.
