We are currently recruiting for an Operations Manager to join, lead and manage our fantastic team at this flagship Asphalt Operation. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective running of the onsite modern asphalt batching plant and the busy rail head and aggregates supply facility.
The site is easily accessible via most major road networks, based in the heart of the Midlands on the outskirts of Birmingham and without entering the new ‘Green Zone’. The plant is easily commutable from Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Walsall, Redditch, Wolverhampton, Nuneaton, Dudley, Sutton Coldfield, Bromsgrove, Tamworth and surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility
The Operations Manager will manage and be accountable for all operations on our plant. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Operations Manager (not exhaustive):
1. Responsible for managing, coach and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
2. You will lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
3. Responsible for all aspects of budgetary control for the multi-faceted operation
4. Managing stock control for all incoming materials for the busy depot and rail head with multiple train deliveries each week
5. Maintaining and implementing existing and new, standard Operating procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
6. Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all of the site’s equipment fixed and mobile with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
7. Organising statutory inspections and actioning defects identified within these reports
8. Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
9. Issue of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
10. Manage proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
11. Collate and report on monthly performance KPI for your business unit for the Area Operations Manager and drive operational performance through KPI’s
12. Ensure appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures

This role is a Days role Monday to Friday, but flexibility is key to this role with the expectation to be available to meet with our plant’s operational needs
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role the ideal candidate for the position of Operations Manager you will have experience and knowledge of:
ESSENTIAL Experience
14. Experience with Rail Head and Plant operations
15. Previous experience of an Asphalt / Aggregates / Ready Mix environment
16. Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
17. Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
18. A high level of education is required along, with excellent IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
19. Ability to multitask and manage change

20. Membership of the Institute of Asphalt Technology is highly desirable, but not compulsory
