Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. Do you care about the quality of Scotland’s water? At Scottish Water, we are always thinking about how we can continue to deliver the fresh, clean water that Scotland relies on – both now and in the future. One way is by constantly investing in the critical infrastructure at our Water Treatment sites. Join us as a Service Planner to help transform how we deliver high quality water, help us make smarter investment choices, and enable sustainable growth that supports a flourishing Scotland. What you’ll do You’ll be part of the Treated Water Storage, Water Pumping Stations, Chemical Dosing in the Network & Chlorine Contact Tank Maintenance Team. Together they play a crucial role in developing complex maintenance projects and programmes at Water Networks sites across Scotland to ensure the continued supply of high quality drinking water and maximise the life of our existing assets. You will support our Senior Service Planners looking after Treated Water Storage Points, Raw and Treated Water Pumping, Chlorine Contact tanks and Secondary disinfection, developing our inspection programmes, assessing risks, and developing projects to ensure these critical systems allow us to safely continue the supply of drinking water to our customers. You will play a key role developing and managing our information and data to ensure that we can accurately and consistently report our Management Approach position to internal customers, regulators and stakeholders. You’ll will be given the autonomy to work creatively and flexibly within a collaborative and supportive team environment and shape the future of some of Scotland’s critical national infrastructure. What you’ll need Ideally you will have some experience of working in asset/strategic planning or involvement with engineering projects. If that was in the field of water networks, even better. You’ll have some experience of working on the early stages of asset engineering projects, with a good understanding of root cause analysis and feasibility. A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in an engineering / scientific and/or asset planning background are essential. We’ve got big plans, and don’t have time to do one thing at a time, so you’ll need to be able to work across multiple projects at different stages in their lifecycle, and often demanding timescales. You’ll be computer literate, with excellent analytical skills, and experience using Excel and Power BI. Experience with corporate systems including GIS, Ellipse, Open Enterprise and P3M would also be desirable. If you have good ideas to make our information processing slicker, we would love to hear about them. Verbal and written communication skills are very important. You’ll know how to discuss and collaborate on sometimes complex technical risks and issues with various stakeholders, particularly our operational teams, and present your ideas and plans with confidence. Character is important to us. At Scottish Water we look for people who are Bold, Responsible, Inspiring and Caring – and you can expect these characteristics to make an appearance at your interview. Looking out for you While the work we do is important, it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance. The normal working pattern for this role is flexible, but we would typically expect you to be available for the majority of time Monday to Friday 9-4:30pm. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community. When it comes to major life events, we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? Applications with part time or flexible working requirements will also be considered. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance. As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping. The not-so-small print This role will be a Grade 6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £33,560. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £44,140. The team covers the whole of Scotland, so this role can be based at any of our main office locations. We operate a hybrid working model, so you can expect to spend some days at home, some days in the office and some days out on site visits. If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 27th February 2025. Please include with your application a role specific covering letter (maximum 500 words) outlining your reason for applying and why you believe you are suitable for the role. Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks. A few final things worth knowing… Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask. As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months. Finally (finally), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted. We’re here to help. Ask us anything at SWRecruitmentScottishWater.co.uk
