Waste Compliance Manager (Trust wide) - Band 7
This is an exciting new role in Facilities services, which will work alongside the sites Hotel Services managers. The Waste Compliance Manager will act as the master Lead Specialist to the Trust and will be responsible for compliance of waste management.
Main duties of the job
1. Have lead responsibility in providing specialist expertise on all aspects of waste management inclusive of Recycling and sustainable development issues. When required will support within the Patient Environment on other legislative drivers eg catering legislation.
2. Be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Trusts Waste policies and strategy.
3. Be responsible for the development and delivery of all reuse, reduce and recycle projects, providing advice on standards and issues relating to recycling targets and WAG strategy.
4. Be responsible for monitoring the Trusts performance in relation to waste inclusive of financial expenditure for a budget of c£1m per annum and liaising with managers on a multidisciplinary level with respect to such matters and the impact they have on waste management.
5. Ensure compliance with all applicable Waste and Environment legislation and government programmes. Liaise with other related specialist disciplines throughout the Health Board where appropriate on issues, which will affect sustainability, waste and recycling management/performance.
6. Be responsible for the liaison with external statutory, regulatory and government organisations for all matters relating to waste and protection of the environment.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Master's Degree or equivalent level of experience in the specialist areas of waste and facilities.
* IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification and experience.
* Membership of a Professional Body.
* NEBOSH General Certificate.
* Chartered membership of a recognised professional institution.
Previous Experience
* Significant experience in Facilities/waste management.
* Development and implementation of Waste strategies/policies within a complex organisation.
* Responsibility for the development, implementation and management of diverse and intricate Waste projects.
* Proven track record of achievements.
* Ability to analyse, present, develop and communicate complex information to managers/staff at senior level within a multidisciplinary organisation.
* The ability to conceive and develop innovative ideas into practical working solutions.
* The development, implementation and management of reducing healthcare waste strategies for a large organisation.
* Understanding of Waste Legislation the interface/impact on an organisation.
* Experience of Budget Management.
* Experience of liaising with multidisciplinary staff in a large organisation.
* Excellent highly developed knowledge of the application of NHS HTM documents, H&S and other associated legislation specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of engineering and water services.
* Negotiating with staff, construction professionals, contractor and suppliers to achieve desirable or planned outcomes.
* Knowledge of computerised automated facilities management system.
* Advanced knowledge of Waste Legislation and a knowledge of Environmental Management Systems, IS014001.
* Good working knowledge of Management controls/systems and discipline of waste segregation in healthcare setting.
* Ability to work flexibly, with an adaptable approach to problem solving.
* Has a self-motivated, positive, proactive approach to the role.
* Ability to work well as an individual or as a team member.
* Ability to work well under pressure.
* Good communication skills both oral and written.

£46,148 to £52,809 a year, pro rata.
