Thinking About Retirement — But Not Ready to Stop Teaching Completely?
If you're a fully qualified Maths or English teacher with years of experience behind you — and still a little gas left in the tank — we have an opportunity that could be the perfect fit.
At TP-Tutors, we’re working closely with local authorities in Ashington, Northumberland to provide tailored education for permanently excluded pupils who aren’t currently in full-time education. We’re looking for experienced, compassionate teachers who are ready to take a step back from the classroom, but not from the job they love.
This is low-commitment, high-impact work: just a few hours a week can make a genuine difference in a young person’s life.
Why This Could Be Right for You:
You still love teaching, but you're ready to slow down.
You want flexibility — to choose your hours, your days, and your pace.
You’re passionate about helping young people who’ve lost their way reconnect with learning in a calm, one-on-one environment.
The Role:
Deliver Maths or English tuition (ideally up to GCSE level).
Support permanently excluded pupils on a 1:1 basis — sessions may take place in homes, libraries, or other community settings.
Provide not just academic instruction, but structure, encouragement, and belief in what a young person can achieve.
What We’re Offering:
£25–£30 per hour.
Flexible, part-time hours — choose how much or how little you want to work.
Full support from a specialist consultant who understands your background and goals.
A chance to stay connected to teaching in a more meaningful, low-pressure way.
What You’ll Need:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a background in Maths or English.
Experience working with pupils with challenging behaviours, SEMH needs, or those outside mainstream education.
A current Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one — we can help).
Two recent professional references.
A UK driving licence is desirable, as some sessions will be in-person across the Ashington area.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
