The East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Children’s Services have been rated GOOD by Ofsted following our recent ILACS inspection. Our Children’s Homes are also all rated Good in all areas.
As a Residential Service, we strive to deliver outstanding care to our children and young people enabling them to aim high and achieve their goals and aspirations. This is an exciting time to join us as we expand our service provision in order to provide excellent homes for children and young people in the local area maintaining their identity in the place they grew up in.
This role is a Deputy Manager across two homes; a solo provision which is already registered and rated Good. The second home is a new 2 bed provision opening in January 2025. There will be a Registered Manager across both homes.
The Role
As a Deputy Children’s Homes Manager, you will be responsible for assisting the Manager with all aspects of the running of a successful children’s home. You will apply the Children’s Homes Regulations (2015) and Quality Standards to your everyday work and will have good oversight to assure yourself and the Manager that the day-to-day practice of the home is effective, and that young people are safeguarded and making progress.
You will be a good leader and will inspire the team to deliver excellent standards of care to the young people. You will be focused on young people’s goals and aspirations and will ensure that they have every opportunity to receive a good education, pursue hobbies and have time with family/friends. When you have concerns about any aspect of their lives, you will work with others effectively to manage risk and achieve good outcomes.
You will support and value the workforce providing good quality reflective supervision helping staff to grow and develop their practice. You will deputise for the Manager when needed and oversee the finances within the home in line with the allocated budget and monitor spending to achieve best value.
Our children and young people have often experienced trauma. They need understanding and meaningful relationships aimed at keeping them safe and able to enjoy the world around them. Our young people tell us that good staff and managers are caring, approachable, respectful, determined, interested, giving, adaptable and non-judgemental. They help us with the interview process to make sure we take on the right people.
You will receive an in-depth induction, regular supervision and access to a good range of training opportunities. You will receive effective day-to-day support to support you in your role.
You must hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent or more advanced qualification relating to working with children). You must also hold a Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, be working towards this or willing to achieve the qualification. You need to have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children/young people.
