Unit Summary
Perioperative Services at all Hamilton Health Sciences sites provide pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care for both adults and children. The Hamilton General supports community hospital services and specializes in Cardiac, Vascular, Neuro Surgery and Adult Burns and Trauma.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the surgeon, the Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring Technologist will possess the background knowledge for both theory and practice, as well as experience and critical thinking skills to independently perform diagnostic procedures during central and peripheral neurological surgeries. Intraoperative neurophysiological tests may include, but are not limited to: SSEP, MEP, EMG, EEG, and BAEP. The primary goal is to assist in preserving neurological function during surgery and preventing untoward deficits. The technologist will perform monitoring procedures during surgery and promptly notify the surgical team of any changes in the neurophysiological monitoring parameters. Participation in conferences and technical meetings is essential. The technologist will establish further training and monitoring procedures.
Schedule Work Hours: Monday - Friday
Qualifications
1. Bachelor of Science degree
2. Successful graduate of an accredited intraoperative neuro-monitoring educational program
3. Current and in good standing Certified Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM)
4. Professional membership with CANM (Canadian Association of Intraoperative Monitoring)
5. The ability and initiative to self-teach is essential
6. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
7. Excellent interpersonal skills
8. Ability to function and navigate effectively in a fast-paced Operating Room environment
9. Must be able to wear lead
10. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
11. Commitment to collaborative practice and team processes
