The Forum School
The Forum School and Residential Home is a 52-week residential specialist school providing quality therapeutic care and education for young people with Autism, severe learning difficulties, challenging behaviour, and complex needs. The children and young people attending the school are aged 7 to 19 years and follow a school calendar aligned with Local Authority term dates.
The school aims to reshape support for young people into adulthood, preparing them for employment and lifelong fulfillment.
Purpose of the Role
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) ensures high standards of learning support. The role involves tasks similar to those of a Teaching Assistant, acting as a role model, supporting, coaching, and mentoring TAs and Learning Support Workers, and assessing TA practice to enable NVQ 3 achievement. The HLTA may supervise a class in the absence of a teacher with assistance from TAs and senior staff. Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Support students:
* Monitor and promote positive relationships between staff and students.
* Provide care and support for students, including health, hygiene, and personal care, aligned with Personal, Social and Health Education programs.
* Support students' participation in learning activities, tailored to their needs.
* Assist TAs and LSWs in developing literacy and numeracy skills.
Support Teachers:
* Collaborate with TAs to ensure quality support, under teacher guidance.
* Maintain positive relationships within the education team.
* Help organize learning environments, prepare resources, and deliver activities.
* Support curriculum delivery, working with groups or individuals as directed.
* Observe and record student performance, maintaining confidentiality.
* Contribute to planning, evaluation, and the use of ICT in the classroom.
