About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Best Interest Assessor/Social Worker to join our Deprivation of Liberty Service in Bromley. This role involves assessing and reviewing Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) applications under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, ensuring individuals’ rights are upheld while they receive appropriate care and treatment.
The successful candidate will work closely with health and social care professionals, families, legal teams, and advocacy services to conduct Best Interest Assessments and ensure compliance with legal frameworks and human rights legislation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Social Worker or Best Interest Assessor looking for a part-time role with flexible working options.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake Best Interest Assessments (BIAs) under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, ensuring individuals’ rights and freedoms are protected.
* Assess whether a deprivation of liberty is necessary and proportionate, considering the least restrictive options.
* Prepare detailed assessment reports, including recommendations for conditions, advocacy, or court applications.
* Monitor DoLS authorisations, conducting reviews and reassessments when required.
* Work closely with the Court of Protection for complex cases and legal challenges.
* Liaise with local authorities, NHS teams, legal representatives, care providers, and advocacy services to ensure individuals receive appropriate care and support.
* Identify safeguarding concerns and take appropriate action in line with adult safeguarding procedures.
* Provide expert advice and consultation to social care teams and partner agencies on Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and DoLS matters.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
* Degree in Social Work (or equivalent)
* Registration with Social Work England
* Completed Best Interest Assessor (BIA) training and qualification
* Post-qualifying experience in adult social care, mental capacity assessments, or safeguarding
* Strong understanding of Mental Capacity Act 2005, DoLS, and human rights legislation
