Job overview
To provide safeguarding leadership, management, and expertise to staff within Buckinghamshire Health Care Trust which is an integrated Trust providing care to adults and children in acute and community settings. The role will take overall leadership of the integrated corporate safeguarding team. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner who is able to ensure that BHT meets its statutory responsibilities to safeguard. This involves leadership, education, research, and clinical care using safeguarding expertise.
Monitor and report on safeguarding performance indicators. Prepare reports for the safeguarding committee and Quality committee.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will utilise their advanced level knowledge and skills to:
1. Provide highly specialist advice to clinical staff, at all levels.
2. Coordinate the integrated safeguarding services on a day-to-day basis both managerially and operationally.
3. Maintain and continue to develop clinical practice skills and safeguarding expertise.
4. Chair and participate in core safeguarding meetings as required.
5. Attend and contribute to serious case review meetings (SARs) and other relevant case review processes.
6. Provide specialist advice, support, and supervision in relation to safeguarding associated issues (including all aspects of the Safeguarding Agenda including domestic violence and self-neglect).
7. Ensure integrated safeguarding services are accessible to all staff from across BHT.
8. Represent the Trust at multi-agency regional or national forums as required.
9. Promote and support the development of integrated safeguarding services.
10. Promote a ‘think family’ culture within the Trust.
11. Critically analyse, interpret, and compare a wide range of highly complex research and other evidence in order to contribute to the preparation of Trust Policies and Guidelines.
12. Assess emergency situations and offer advice and appropriate interventions accurately and promptly.
13. Collate information gained from investigations following critical incidents in order to produce action plans to prevent future incidents and safeguard staff and patient safety.

Person specification
Education
* Registered Nurse, Midwife, or Social Worker
* Relevant Masters or Equivalent Experience in Safeguarding
* Evidence of ongoing development
Experience
* Extensive experience at Senior Nurse/Midwife level
* Proven experience in Safeguarding
* Demonstrable experience of managing teams
* Demonstrable experience of working across organisational boundaries
* Experience of chairing meetings and managing diverse attendance and contributions
Skills
* Excellent standard of written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to engage with and successfully convey highly complex information and concepts to audiences at all levels of the organisation and across organisational boundaries
* Understanding of Information and Clinical Governance/risk management including report writing
