Job overview
The purpose of this job is to assist in the preparation of analytical work for the Blood Sciences Department across a range of scientific disciplines and process the Biofire PCR panels under the supervision of the specimen reception manager and registered biomedical scientists. You are required to communicate with pathology staff, hospital staff, porters, drivers, and couriers.
The post holder will be required to work mainly night shifts (9 hrs per night) and weekends, on a shift rota of 2 nights out of 8.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in departmental work as instructed, following SOPs under the supervision of laboratory managers, team leaders, and/or Biomedical Scientist staff.
* Receipt of a wide range of clinical samples into the department from hospital staff, clinic staff, and transport services.
* Assess samples for urgency and sort by discipline.
* Ensure sample detail matches request form detail and assign unique laboratory number to sample and form, requiring complete accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications and experience
* Completed A level with good grades
* Minimum one year experience working in Laboratory Specimen reception
Skills
* Experience using laboratory IT systems
* Experience working different shift patterns
