Main duties of the job
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Manager has responsibility for the management of the ward area including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Matron will facilitate innovative and evidence-based nursing/midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Matron will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Matron will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Midwife will report directly to the Matron.
The Senior Sister will be expected to take part within the Surgical band 7 Team for staffing.

Person Specification
Education
* Diploma in Nursing/ evidence of Degree level studies
* Evidence of Master level study
Experience
* Experience in a leadership role/ Deputy ward sister/charge nurse experience within last 12 months
* Formal Teaching to groups of staff
