The team
The Private Real Estate Group provides high quality advice and service to private clients, trusts and family offices in connection with their real estate affairs. It works closely where appropriate with other specialists in the Firm, including in particular Private Client and Commercial Real Estate lawyers to achieve that aim. The Group currently comprises 5 partners, 24 fee earners and 6 support staff across the Firm’s 4 offices.
The opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Administrator to join the Residential team based in our Cambridge office, which could be a chance for a graduate to take their first steps in a legal career. The role will work alongside the partners and fee earners in the team to provide them with general administrative and legal support. The main duties of the role include:
1. After initial client contact:
o Send Fee estimate and related documents to client.
2. Upon receipt of instructions:
o Open file in accordance with our Finance and Risk teams’ requirements
o Confirm instructions to estate agents and the other party’s solicitors
o Prepare client care letter.
o Verify clients’ ID and proof of address, usually using ThirdFort app
o Order title entries from Land Registry for a sale
3. When papers received on a purchase:
o Carry out searches on instruction of fee earner.
4. Upon exchange of contracts:
o Send contract to other side when instructed
o Request details of amount to repay mortgage
o Prepare Certificate on Title for partner approval and then request funds from lender
5. Pre-completion
o Set up for completion by carrying out tasks on checklist
o Prepare payment forms to be authorised by partner, with supporting evidence
6. On completion:
o Ensure payment forms are sent for authority
o Date relevant documents and action as necessary
7. After completion
o Submit Stamp Duty Land Tax return and pay tax
o Submit Land Registry application
o Prepare invoice and instructions to settle
8. General
o Liaise with clients, solicitors, external professionals, etc., dealing on behalf of the fee earner with transaction updates where possible
o Ensure all correspondence and documentation is electronically filed
o Make appointments and arrange meetings

Experience/Qualifications
* Either strong administrative experience of working in a law firm with some knowledge of residential property, or
* A graduate looking to acquire skills and experience in the legal sector, and ideally with an interest in residential property
