Main duties of the job
The department performs a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures, in vivo and in vitro investigations and radionuclide therapies. Currently the department undertakes around 5000 diagnostic studies, including a large number of myocardial perfusion imaging studies, renal, and orthopaedic work. There are particular interests in thyroid and metabolic bone disease. Radionuclide therapies include radioiodine (benign and malignant), and lutetium-177 DOTATATE. The department is well equipped with two 16-slice SPECT/CT cameras, a modern CZT SPECT/CT camera, an onsite licensed radiopharmacy which supports seven NHS nuclear medicine departments and a bespoke purpose built radionuclide therapy suite. The department has strong professional and technical links with neighbouring nuclear medicine, medical physics and radiopharmacy departments in Kent and further afield.

You will be joining an ambitious, enthusiastic, friendly, motivated multidisciplinary team providing diagnostic imaging and other investigations within the diagnostic services in the Department of Nuclear Medicine here at the Medway Maritime Hospital.
The post holder will act as a Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist in providing a range of high quality specialist routine and non-routine technical nuclear medicine service to meet the needs of the Medway NHS Foundation Trust. He/she will assist in the day-to-day workload organisation, offer suggestions regarding waiting time targets management and logistic operation of the Medway Nuclear Medicine technical service.
The post holder will also assist with periodic critical audit review of specialist technical study protocols and processes, practical training of junior staff and students and supervision of less experienced members of technical staff and students. He/she will assist the Nuclear Medicine Consultant Physicians and other clinical and surgical colleagues with the interpretation of imaging studies and results from in vitro investigations through the critical appraisal of the technical merits and validity of the methodology employed in the absence of or at the request of the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
The work is varied and demanding with an emphasis on accuracy, reliability and adaptability. The post holder will be able to prioritize demanding workloads and work under their own initiative and with assistance from senior members of the team. The post holder will be a key member of the Nuclear Medicine multidisciplinary team and will have direct contact with patients. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are therefore essential.

1. BSc(Hons) Degree
2. Postgraduate diploma in Nuclear Medicine or Equivalent
Knowledge

3. Good knowledge of Nuclear Medicine theory and practice
4. A thorough understanding of the relevant rules and regulations
5. Conversant with a range of PC software applications
6. Highly motivated with an eye for detail
7. Able to achieve objectives through co-operation rather than command

8. Venepuncture skills are desirable but training will be provided
