Canonium Learning Trust is seeking a proactive and experienced Finance & Business Coordinator to support two primary schools currently in the process of joining our Trust. This role is vital in ensuring compliance with local authority financial regulations and smooth day-to-day financial operations. Responsibilities include managing purchasing, budget monitoring, payroll support, and general administration.
Initially, this position is offered as a temporary role while the two schools transition to joining Canonium. Once the schools officially become part of the Trust, there is an opportunity for this role to become permanent. Both schools are small, rural village schools located between Maldon and Chelmsford. There may be scope to increase the hours in the future.
This role is 15 hours offered over 2 or 3 days, school term time only.
This role is offered on NJC Essex Scale 5/6, with a full time equivalent salary range of £26,409 to £30,060 per annum (an hourly rate of £13.69 to £15.58) depending on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Administration: Process invoices, track expenses, maintain purchase orders, and update financial records within the school's accounting system (FMS). Support the Headteacher with expenditure tracking and assist the Finance Partner in financial reporting.
2. Procurement & Inventory: Manage procurement processes, ensuring compliance and best value. Maintain school inventories and supplier contracts.
3. Payroll & HR Administration: Maintain electronic staff records, assist with payroll queries, complete the School Workforce Census, and support safer recruitment processes, including DBS checks and employment records.
4. Compliance & Audit Support: Ensure adherence to internal controls and local authority financial regulations, support audit preparation, and maintain data protection compliance.
5. General Administration: Handle data entry, manage records, support health and safety compliance, and promote the school's equal opportunities policy.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Experience in finance or administration within a school setting, with strong numeracy and literacy skills
* Proficient in using computers, with knowledge of financial management systems
* Strong communication skills, able to present financial information clearly
* Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage workloads effectively
* AAT Level 3 or equivalent experience
* Familiarity with educational financial policies and Multi-Academy Trust environments
