If you're reading this you probably know the importance of Net Zero. This is your chance to play your part in working towards it.
This environmental legislation consultancy is somewhere you can feel proud to work, knowing you are helping to improve sustainability in the built environment.
It's a friendly team with a mix of ages and backgrounds, and you'll feel supported while learning the job. The senior management team are accessible, and encourage ideas and discussions.
There is a fun and sociable working environment, but the team is also highly professional and technically focused.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll be using the latest software to predict the effect that a building will have on the environment and to assess the carbon emissions from a building.
This will include completing Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Whole Life Carbon Assessments (WLC) for various building projects, evaluating their environmental impact and identifying opportunities for improvement.
You'll also be making calculations; for example, how much carbon is in building materials, such as concrete and roof tiles.
You'll be liaising with clients including architects and engineers; preparing technical reports, and using your analytical skills.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
The business has a very good record of employing graduates, and many have gone on to successful careers with the business. Some have moved into more senior roles.
You'll learn a lot from experienced colleagues and will quickly be given responsibility to manage your own work and time.
There is a big focus on ongoing learning and development. You'll be doing courses, and working towards professional accreditations; all the while improving your range of knowledge.
Going forward, there are other areas you can get involved in (for example BREEAM), as the business likes the team to be multi-skilled.
And as your skills develop, so will your pay. You should be on 30k within a year or so.
WHERE WILL YOU BE DOING IT
The offices are based in a quirky and interesting building next to Bristol Harbour: a converted Brunel warehouse, powered by PVs.
There is free parking available. Or if you prefer more sustainable travel, there is a company cycle scheme in place (and shower rooms to freshen up).
Due to the difficulties involved in relocation, you will need to already be within commutable distance of Bristol; or specifically looking to move there, and easily able to do so due to connections. Within 20 miles or so is ok.
The business offers flexible, hybrid working, so once you are trained up you should be able to work from home for part of the time.
What You'll Need
This is very much about working with buildings, so you need to be focused on the built environment, not the broader environmental field.
In terms of degree type, something construction or engineering related would be ideal, as would anything related to Sustainable Energy.
But there is some flexibility, though there should be some link to this area of work.
You'll be learning about green building standards and environmental regulations; if you have any existing knowledge, that would be ideal.
If you have some knowledge of OneClick LCA software, Revit, or AutoCAD, that would be great, but if not, you can learn them.
You'll need strong time management skills, analytical skills, and you should be comfortable speaking with people.
