Head of Ministries Operations, Christian Charity, London c£40-£48k + benefits
A fantastic opportunity exists for a committed and practising Evangelical Christian to join this well-established Christian Charity at their London Headquarters in the role of Head of Ministries Operations. The Head of Ministries Operations position is a strategic operational management role for the Ministries Department and the office of the Director of Ministries within the charity. The purpose of the role will be to enable the Director of Ministries to deliver the strategic priorities of the Director’s office, mobilising missionary teams in the field.
The role will combine delegated operations management and ministry responsibilities of the Director’s office and high-level strategic and project oversight support for the Director. It will include representing the Department on internal committees, acting as the Director’s ambassador with external stakeholders such as church leaders, whilst also developing internal systems management and ensuring the Director is provided with excellent departmental and project management support. You can also demonstrate a strong evangelical Christian Faith as there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010 that the post holder will be an active and practising Evangelical Christian who will take an active part in the spiritual day to day mission of the organisation.
Main Responsibilities:
* Fully participate in the prayer, worship and fellowship life of the charity, including corporate prayer events and conferences involving Christian worship, prayer and fellowship, as well as weekly departmental times of prayer and worship;
* Support the Director to ensure the delivery of departmental priorities, working alongside the Director in all aspects of strategic development, project management and departmental oversight.
* Support the Director in developing and promoting effective liaison and partnerships working with a range of external stakeholders;
* Represent the Director as assigned on internal and external forums;
* Problem-solve and handle sensitively and appropriately any matters affecting the meeting of agreed targets and project delivery;
* Conduct extensive missional research to contribute significantly to strategic decision-making processes that will influence the shape and focus of the Ministry Department;
* Prepare research presentations or reports for internal and external forums;
* Liaise with the charity’s Leadership Team and the Director’s Direct Reports to support effective two-way communication;
* Engage with the charity’s HQ Team and Field Staff as needed;
* Liaise regularly with the charity’s Property Department regarding the strategic development and use of the charity’s properties for ministry purposes;
o Have management oversight and monitor Ministry department budgets, including:
o o Provide regular feedback to the Director, Field Directors and local teams on financial performance against agreed expenditure;
o o Check monthly management accounts from finance for impact on Ministries department;
o o Track Departmental budgets and expenditure and make recommendations to keep expenditure in line with agreed budgets;
o o Assist the Director with annual departmental budget setting;
o o Ensure financial controls operate in line with policy and procedure and respond to enquiries from staff as necessary regarding departmental financial administration procedures, budget monitoring and other departmental financial matters;
o o Monitor and reconcile field expenditure with the relevant staff.
o Facilitate Team Meetings and Team Prayer times according to calendar cycles;
o Read and analyse incoming memos, reports and other communications and distribute them within the Department or respond as appropriate. Assimilate incoming information to inform strategic ministry as relevant;
o Under the direction of Ministries Director, organise intake of ministry volunteers and other ministry tracks.
o Assist with other Departmental projects as required.
* You will also line manage direct reports by assisting with workload planning, developing staff in strategic ministry and missional mindset across all aspects of work, support development and delivery of targets, research assignments and project-work and hold accountable for target delivery and manage staff performance. You will hold regular team and one-to-one meetings with direct reports, conduct annual performance appraisals and reviews in accordance with the charity’s appraisal life-cycle, line managing in accordance with the charity’s policies and procedures to ensure healthy team functioning in all aspects of work and spiritual life.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
* Experience of working in an Operations Manager role for a Director-level individual, or strategic senior ministry role, and working with minimum supervision;
* A practicing evangelical Christian;
* Educated to degree-level or equivalent;
* Clear evidence and demonstration of church gospel ministry, mission and Evangelism;
* Willingness to undertake Urban Mission studies at the charity;
* Ability to represent the Department and the Director at meetings and events;
* Strong interpersonal skills to credibly deal with stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally;
* Ability to exercise sound judgement, maintain discretion and confidentiality
* Project management and Project planning skills;
* Accountancy / organisation budget management experience;
* Line management experience managing a team or Department;
* Able to demonstrate spiritual leadership of a team;
* Ability to gather data, collate and present from a mixture of internal & external sources;
* Ability to conduct research and good understanding and experience of research methodology and reporting;
* Ability to analyse information, write and present reports to all levels of the organisation;
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to present information in a clear and logical way;
* Strong team player, able to work closely with senior staff;
* Ability to respond quickly and adapt to changing priorities and workflow;
* Strong organisational skills and an aptitude for forward planning, with an ability to prioritise;
* Ability to undertake a diverse range of tasks at the same time;

* Extremely proficient user of Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Desirable
* Good understanding of Cross-cultural urban mission
* Experience of working in a Christian charity;
* A CIMA/ACCA qualification (part or fully), preferably advanced level, or equivalent experience of financial management;
* Project management certification;
* CIM or other relevant management and administration certification;
* Knowledge of managing and delivering change.
