Our client is a well-established freight forwarder, and they now have a vacancy for a Business Development Manager based in the York area. This is a very exciting opportunity for a successful sales candidate to join a company that is rapidly expanding and offers excellent progression within their freight forwarding business.
This senior sales role involves developing new business through cold calling and face-to-face visits. You will negotiate with air, road, and sea freight suppliers to obtain the most competitive rates, enabling you to calculate and submit quotations, follow up, and secure trial bookings. Once on board, you will be responsible for developing the business potential and nurturing the relationship.
The role is principally office-based with 1 to 2 days per week visiting. They do not offer hybrid working. You will work with a team of 3 sales professionals in a modern open-plan office near York.
Duties of the Role:
1. New Business Development
2. Account management of existing clients
3. Building/nurturing client relationships to maximize business potential
4. Negotiating with air, road, and sea freight suppliers to obtain rates
5. Calculating and submitting quotations
6. Following up on quotations to close and secure trial bookings
7. Visiting new and existing clients (averaging 1 day per week)
8. Internal liaison with the sales team assisting with quotations and service information
9. Liaison with the operations team to pass on the necessary client instructions/info
10. Supporting the ops team with communication with clients when necessary
Skills & Experience Required:
1. Proven Business to Business (B2B) Sales Experience
2. Freight Industry experience is an advantage but not essential
3. Cold calling experience
4. Excellent customer service experience
5. Confident communication skills
6. Good organizational skills
7. Good attention to detail
8. Ability to work to deadlines and handle pressure
9. Quick thinker/problem solver
10. Self-motivated and enthusiastic character
11. Ability to work with and support a team
Package and Benefits:
1. Circa £40,000 to £45,000 dependent on experience
2. Bonus with OTE £55,000
3. Contributory Pension
4. Holidays: 22 Days + Bank Holidays
5. A company car would be provided after 3 months
