The Shuttleworth Botanic Garden – Isle of Man
Landscape Manager - Full time
Concept work on The Shuttleworth Botanic Garden (SBG) in the Isle of Man started in 2011. The early years have allowed us to identify key elements and objectives that will enable the accomplishment of this ambitious, international botanical landscape project.
While still in its infancy, the garden is now entering an exciting period of development. Our botanical landscapes will provide areas in which to:
showcase and conserve plants from temperate biomes around the world;
study genetic diversity and the effects of climate change on plants; and
provide fantastic educational and recreational opportunities for a wide range of people.
Several large landscape construction projects are underway; involving earth moving and the creation of large, natural rock and water features. At the same time, other significant landscape areas are being designed.
A new position of Landscape Manager is required to support this fundamental phase of project implementation. Our landscapes take considerable time and care to create and require specialist skills and dedication in our team. As Landscape Manager you will commit to this diverse, long-term project and play an important part in realising the vision of creating a globally recognised botanic garden in the Isle of Man.
You will hold a relevant academic qualification at level 5 (HND) or, ideally, at degree level. You will have a minimum of seven years’ experience in notable landscape, botanic or garden projects where you have demonstrated drive and determination to succeed, willingness to meet challenges, dynamic problem solving and proactive work planning.
The Landscape Manager needs to have a genuine passion for their work, plants and landscapes. An inquisitive mind, attention to detail and the ability to innovate will allow you to succeed in this role and help to develop the project and colleagues.
As a manager at the SBG, getting the best from your team and sound judgement are important attributes. Good communication skills and the ability to lead, mentor and inspire colleagues are essential. This role requires regular hands on involvement working outdoors throughout all seasons as well as the ability to attend to administration.
The SBG offers fantastic opportunities for personal and professional development, achievement and experience. A strong element of legacy is associated with this position that will last well into the future, both in terms of personal achievement and contributing to a major new botanic garden. Whether you specialise in large landscape construction, are passionate about plants and nature or mentoring and sharing your knowledge with others, base your future career with us.
A generous salary coupled with an annual allowance leave of 25 days per year, plus all statutory holidays, are available for the right candidate.
The Isle of Man is a special place to live and work and offers a rich blend of outdoor and sporting activities as well as cultural and social events. National and international events take place on the island each year that attract visitors from all over the world. Above all else, the island is a tranquil place to take your time and appreciate life.
