SLR has a fantastic opportunity within the European Region for an experienced Health and Safety Professional to join our team on an initial 6 month fixed term contract basis. Reporting in to our European Health and Safety Manager, you will be expected to support and provide guidance to all functions on operational Health and Safety activities ensuring compliance with Global and Regional Health and Safety policies, standards and legislation.
The Health and Safety team are part of the Shared Services function within the business, supporting the wider teams and offices on all health and safety matters within the European Region. The position has arisen due to business growth and the need for additional resources to support increasing demands and improvement activities throughout the business.
The role
The role offers exposure into a wide range of health & safety areas, and if successful you will be responsible for tasks including:
1. Support the European Health and Safety Manager and Health and Safety Team to manage and maintain the Health and Safety system and ensure adherence to all relevant legislation and agreed internal and external standards.
2. Promote the development and implementation of the risk assessment process across SLR, in line with the Risk Management Strategy and Risk Assessment procedures.
3. Support Management through investigations of incidents and accidents to ensure root cause analysis and effective preventative and corrective actions are identified.
4. Lead and undertake internal audits and inspections against SLR's management systems and agreed internal standards.
5. Increase health and safety competence of Managers and staff in the business through coaching and guidance, to ensure staff remain competent in health and safety practices and promote the continual development of SLR’s Health and Safety culture.
6. Work closely with Managers to ensure that Health & Safety issues are effectively managed, and to promote Health and Safety as an integral part of good management practice.
7. Ensure DSE user assessments are completed and assist with Occupational Health issues (including advice on referrals, PEEP assessments, stress risk assessments, vaccinations, health surveillance, return to work, pregnant worker risk assessments).
8. Respond to day-to-day Health and Safety issues and inform the European Health and Safety manager of significant issues and action taken.
9. Managing specific health and safety related projects, including reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
10. Ensure emergency and first aid provision is suitable and assist with assessing PPE requirements.
11. Provide cover and assist with H&S Advisor & European H&S Manager duties as required.

About you
You will have a high degree of experience in promoting a positive health and safety culture, with excellent communication skills and the ability to help others understand SLR’s health and safety obligations. You will be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as working well as part of a team. We would envisage that you would be able to demonstrate/bring:
1. A national or professional qualification in Health & Safety. (E.g., NEBOSH Diploma).
2. Previous experience of operational Health and Safety essential.
3. Up to date knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and its practical application within the context of various work environments.
4. Experience communicating, engaging, and working with colleagues from all levels of the business.
5. Experience of supporting occupational health referrals.
6. Full driving licence valid in the UK.
7. Experience in conducting Health and Safety audits.
8. Experience within a similar service led organisation would be desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
