Vox Network Consultants is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team in enforcing environmental laws and regulations.
Salary:
$45,000 - $55,000 per annum (dependent on location)
Key Responsibilities
* Investigating Environmental Crime: Conduct thorough investigations into environmental crimes such as littering, graffiti, fly tipping, and dog fouling. Gather evidence and take robust enforcement action to tackle recurrent offending behaviour.
* Routine Patrols: Undertake regular patrols to identify, log, inspect, and investigate instances of environmental offences. Issue Fixed Penalty Notices for environmental offences in accordance with set procedures and best practice.
* Enforcement Action: Take instructions from relevant Council Services or Contractors to remove environmental offences such as littering and dog fouling. Inspect licensed and unlicensed highway activities and issue Fixed Penalty Notices for licence infringements as necessary.
* Abandoned Vehicles: Investigate abandoned vehicles in the borough, label them, and initiate possible removal. Ensure that all enforcement actions are strictly within any legislative restrictions, relevant codes, or advice on best practice.
* Highway Damage: Report damage to the highway, including street furniture, observed during routine patrols. Collate information and pass it to the relevant service so that appropriate remedial or legal action can be taken.
* Criminal Proceedings: Carry out interviews, give cautions, record statements, and make them as required for criminal proceedings in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 for environmental offences.
* Duties and Responsibilities: Perform duties in accordance with the Data Protection Act, the Computer Misuse Act, the Health and Safety at Work Act, and other relevant legislation. Follow Council policies, procedures, standing orders, and financial regulations.
Requirements
* Legislative Framework: Knowledge of the relevant legislative framework, including working knowledge of the Highways Act 1980 and part III of the London Local Authorities Act 1990 (as amended).
* Environmental Legislation: Working knowledge of relevant environmental/highways legislation; including Health and Safety at Work, Police and Criminal Evidence Act to progress court cases.
* Investigation Experience: Experience of investigating nuisance complaints and other environmental protection work.
* PACE Knowledge: Sound working knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
