Working arrangements
Hybrid - expected onsite 2 days per fortnight.
Location flexible - Barrow, Filton, Frimley or Brough.
The Principal Engineer (C) - Electrical Engineering (C&I) shall provide support to the Engineering Manager and/or external specialists during development, analysis, integration and verification of platform control and instrumentation systems.
JOB FUNCTION
In accordance with the level of supervision/responsibility assigned by role/grade:
1. Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
2. Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme
3. Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
4. Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including: diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications
5. Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority
6. Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standards, procedures and documentation.
7. Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers.
Essential
8. Develop a functional design for C&I solution for complex propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems, including deriving the functional design from Piping & Instrumentation diagrams
9. Producing Bill of Materials for C&I equipment
10. Specifying instrumentation measuring pressure/temperature/flow/level/analysis that is fit for purpose for specific process conditions
11. Producing a C&I design that satisfies a wide range of requirements such as; functional; safety; defence standards, British standards, naval standards, nuclear standards
12. Judging and measuring compliance against non-functional stakeholders (EMC, Shock, Metallics etc.)
13. Produce verification evidence to demonstrate design compliance with requirements
14. Production of various design documents such as; I/O schedules, instrument schedules, cable schedules, functional design specification, instrument specification
15. Implementation of physical system-to-system interface design
16. Undertaking/leading technical design reviews for C&I
SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE and QUALIFICATIONS
17. BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent.
18. CEng (or be able to satisfy requirements for CEng)
19. Technical report writing skills.
20. Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle.
21. Knowledge and experience in defence standards whilst not essential would be an advantage.
In depth understanding of at least one of the following areas:
22. Instrumentation and control system theory including PID control,
23. Electrical circuits design, EMC precautions and power supply characteristics
24. Safety Integrity Levels and BS EN 61508 or 61511
25. PLC programming to IEC 61131-3 standard - fieldbus technology (Profibus/Profinet)
