Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing dedicated and practical assistance in delivering the art curriculum, ensuring the smooth running of lessons and practical activities under the guidance of Teachers and Senior Leaders. Supporting pupils in developing their creative skills and confidence, maintaining a well-organised and inspiring workspace, and ensuring all materials and equipment are prepared, maintained, and used safely. Promoting the ethos and values of the school and Bourne Education Trust by fostering an inclusive and engaging environment where all pupils can fully participate in and benefit from a rich and diverse art education.
Responsible To: Head of Art and Design
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical support for the art curriculum, including the preparation of materials, setting up equipment, and ensuring resources are maintained and available for use.
2. Work closely with staff to support and enhance the delivery of the art curriculum.
3. Prepare and organise materials, tools, and equipment for art lessons.
4. Assist in the demonstration of art techniques, equipment, and processes.
5. Provide advice and guidance to staff and pupils on the use of art materials, equipment, and techniques.
6. Manage and order stock, ensuring the department is well-equipped with essential materials and resources.
7. Ensure pupils' artwork is stored safely and appropriately, maintaining its quality and presentation.
8. Stay up to date with developments in art techniques, materials, and technology, actively developing new skills where possible.
9. Assist in the safe disposal of materials and outdated stock.
10. Provide support to other departments as required, including Art and Design.
11. Maintain a high standard of visual displays around the school.
12. Maintain tidy and organised workspaces and storage areas.
13. Clean areas of the department regularly.
14. Support with practical examinations as required.
15. Carry out routine administrative tasks.
Health and Safety:
1. Ensure health and safety guidelines are adhered to when using, maintaining, and checking specialist apparatus and equipment.
2. Stay up to date with any health and safety training as required by the school.
3. Read and adhere to the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
4. Ensure the department has a good quality stock of PPE required for carrying out certain practical activities, e.g., safety goggles.
5. Ensure equipment and apparatus and areas within the department are safe prior to practical lessons.
Key Skills Required:
1. Ability to demonstrate an awareness, understanding, and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children (E).
2. GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent appropriate qualification) (E).
3. Ability to evidence effective continuous professional development (E).
4. Relevant experience of working with children in an education setting (D).
5. Ability to evidence effective communication with a wide audience/range of stakeholders (E).
6. Ability to evidence excellent IT skills using a wide range of programmes and software (E).
