* Play a pivotal role in supporting the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as an independent nurse practitioner Trust wide.
* Deliver nursing care of the highest possible standards to patients by ensuring that nursing assessment, implementation, and evaluation of patient care are undertaken competently by all staff, and documented appropriately.
* Promote timely progression of patients through their pathway by supporting the provision of helpline services run from the hub by resolving queries referred by them to the screening centre.
* Be responsible for care delivery to patients identified by the screening programme.
* Able to act as the patient's advocate, using empathy and counselling skills throughout all stages of the screening pathway.
* Undertake and successfully complete the SSP bowel screening course at level 6 or 7.
Main duties of the job
Ensure timely access to screening colonoscopy/flexi Sigmoidoscopy or alternative diagnostic intervention and seamless transition to agreed pathways in primary, secondary, tertiary, or outpatient care settings during all stages of the screening pathway.
Plan programmes of care and coordinate delivery and activities with local services and other health care professionals including MDT, GPs, consultants, and discharge planning.
Apply relevant policies and guidelines and propose changes to practices and procedures within the local Bowel Cancer Screening Centre and satellite screening centres.
Conduct audits relevant to the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and areas relating to colonoscopy and colorectal cancer in the unit, including those relating to the endoscopy service.
Use advanced communication skills to break bad news to patients and relatives.

Clinical skills and experience
* Negotiating and influencing skills.

Qualifications
* NMC registration.
* Preparation of mentors or equivalent.
* Degree in Nursing.
* Counselling qualification.
Governance
* Ongoing professional development. Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management.
* Understanding and knowledge of nursing/clinical audit.
* Knowledge of valid consent.
Personal/professional attributes
* Willingness to undertake Specialist Screening Practitioner course.
* Experience of conducting audit/QA and changing practice.
* Previous involvement in the development, implementation, and audit of clinical guidelines and standards.
* Relevant clinical experience of lower GI disease including radiological and endoscopic investigation.
* Continuous quality improvement.
* Previous experience of Specialist Screening Practitioner and bowel screening pathways.
* Experience of managing patients in an outpatient setting.
* Experience of Nurse Led Clinics. Valid nurse consent.
* Some experience in budget management.
