The Role We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Highway Electrical and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) team. Whether you are just starting or have experience looking to progress further, the role is available at many levels: Trainee Technician Technician Senior Technician Assistant Engineer Engineer Job Title and Salary will be dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. The Highways Electrical and ITS Team are responsible for the maintenance, installation and repair of the Councils electrical assets which is split into two sides. The first being Street Lighting which also includes things like Illuminated traffic management, Subways, Festive Illuminates, Private Cable Network and supplies to other teams' equipment. The other side is Traffic Signals which includes permanent traffic signal junctions and crossings, Safety and Information signage and a Traffic Control system. In this role, you will be working in the Street Lighting side of the team, and you will either be assisting or delivering day to day works and projects depending on your level. Key Responsibilities: Support the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems. Support Engineers in various projects and tasks from design to delivery. Participate in training programs to provide continuous development of technical skills and knowledge Carry out routine inspections of assets to assist in the design and delivery of projects or auditing of completed works by the contractor. Apply technical knowledge to assist in developing processes to deliver required outcomes within a service framework. Assist in the handling of inquiries from the public and colleagues, preparing written replies where appropriate. Communicate with colleagues and contractors through verbal and written reports and keep records of site visits and/or activities completed in accordance with procedures and guidelines. Perform activities or services to assist colleagues and contribute to evaluating or monitoring their impact. A Valid driving licence is an essential condition for this role. This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office will be closed by 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset. About You We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working in the Highway Electrical Industry, and who possesses the following skills and experience: Level 3 - Trainee Technician Essential Criteria: Good verbal and written communication skills Proficiency in using IT equipment and Microsoft Applications (Word and Excel) Good problem solving skills and attention to detail Ability to work well in a team environment and also independently. Willingness to undergo further training towards electrical training/qualifications. Demonstrate ability to work to set deadlines and manage own time effectively. Desirable Criteria: Basic understanding of health and safety in the workplace Level 4 to 7 - Technician to Engineer Essential Criteria: Essential/Desirable criteria at Level 3 Relevant qualifications and experience in an Electrical environment Proficiency in AutoCAD ILP Lighting Diploma (Engineer positions) Desirable Criteria: Previous experience in a Highway Electrical role.
