Job Description:

This role involves working with offenders in the community, prisons, and courts to support them in turning their lives around. You will gain a professional qualification with support, alongside a competitive salary, generous leave, and excellent training.
What the Role Involves:
You will work as a probation services officer while earning your qualification. This includes visiting prisons and attending courts, making interventions with offenders to help them understand their behaviour and motivate change. You will assist them in realizing their potential to build a positive future and reduce reoffending.
Throughout your training, you will grow your knowledge and skills through a blend of theory and practical training, collaborating with victims of crime, colleagues in the criminal justice system, charities, and the wider community.
After qualifying, you can apply to become a probation officer with opportunities for further development and structured career progression.
Skills and Experience:
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds. Essential qualities include emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. You should be capable of building rapport quickly and de-escalating volatile situations. Self-management, passion, commitment, and excellent report-writing skills are also crucial. Experience working with individuals demonstrating challenging behaviour, whether paid or voluntary, is required.
What You Need to Apply:
A recognised Level 3 qualification or above (e.g., A level, access to higher educational diploma, advanced apprenticeship, or AS level) is required, regardless of the subject. We offer various learning programmes based on your qualification level, ranging from 15 months for graduates with a level 5 qualification to 27 months for non-graduates. Successful applicants will have their previous education assessed to determine the programme length (15, 21, or 27 months).
What We Offer:
A competitive salary and benefits package, including enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme, where you contribute approximately 6.5% of your pay, with employer contributions around 29.6%. You will be part of a supportive, diverse, and friendly team environment with guidance from your divisional training manager, line manager, and practice tutor throughout your studies.
