As part of our continued growth and commitment to safety, we are seeking a highly skilled Safety, Compliance & Sustainability professional to join our team in Sydney. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of safety management and regulatory compliance within our operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety protocols, risk management, and legal compliance across our transport and logistics services.
OVERVIEW
As the General Manager – Safety, Compliance & Sustainability, you will play a crucial role in shaping our safety culture and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. You will lead initiatives to enhance our sustainability practices, promote a safe working environment, and ensure that our operations align with our corporate values. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of safety, compliance, and environmental management systems.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Ability to investigate all incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
* Ensure collaboration with business leaders to embed a strong safety culture across the organisation.
* Provide continuous support across the business, in conducting site audits, workplace inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring company's compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
* Responsible for the ongoing administration of risk management software, develop Work Health & Safety content for internal communications, and ensure continuous improvement through data analysis, trend reporting, and compliance with statutory obligations.
* Ability to lead the organisation through developing and implementing Work Health & Safety Plans/Emergency response plans, in consultation with key stakeholders and key personnel to assist the organisation in achieving effective safety performance and continuous improvement.
* Ensure all staff are adequately trained in safety related matters including the Group Safety Management System (SMS), Chain of Responsibility, NHVR and any other identified requirements.
* Act in an advisory capacity to relevant stakeholders to keep them informed and up to date on safety & compliance matters.
* Manage and continually improve the organisation's worker’s compensation / injury management performance.
* Responsible for ensuring that the organisation has commitment to and processes for complying with its duties under the Workplace Injury Management & Workers Compensation Act(s).
* Ensure that compliance programs are comprehensive and adhere to legislative and customer standards.
* Oversee and coordinate internal and external audits involving regulators, customers, and relevant authorities.
* Create and implement business readiness initiatives that support continuity, emergency management, disaster recovery, a growth mindset, governance, and corporate social responsibility.
* Research and establish Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) metrics to assess performance.
* Promote a collaborative workplace culture that values diversity, innovation, and the mental and emotional well-being of employees.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
* Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Workplace Health and Safety or equivalent industry experience.
o Relevant safety and compliance training and certifications.
* Experience:
o Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety and compliance role, preferably within the transport and logistics industry.
o Proven track record in implementing safety management systems and regulatory compliance frameworks.
o Experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
o Knowledge of relevant transport and safety regulations, such as the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and fatigue management.
