ECS is seeking a UI/UX Designer to work in our Stafford, VA office. Please Note: This position is contingent upon contract award.
The UI/UX Designer will support the DMSS program within ECS by working within an Agile team, serving as a designer responsible for user experience and interface design of a Cloud-based application called CODIS. They will work collaboratively with developers, the customer, and end users. They should be a self-starter who needs minimal supervision, is comfortable breaking down complex requirements, can create well‐thought-out designs, conduct user research and organize the resulting data, and comes with a team-first approach.
The ECS Team provides focused Agile software development and maintenance for CODIS, a mission-critical application for the FBI. CODIS supports a database repository of DNA profiles from individuals, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons. CODIS software allows local, state, and national laboratories to compare DNA profiles electronically, thereby linking serial crimes to each other and identifying suspects by matching DNA profiles from crime scenes to individuals’ profiles.
Responsibilities
* Quickly yet thoroughly create workflows, low fidelity wireframes, and high fidelity mockups as needed to effectively conceptualize and communicate detailed user interaction behaviors.
* Develop and maintain detailed user‐interface specifications.
* Create user‐centered designs for software projects by considering customer and end user feedback.
* Design the UI architecture, interface, and interactions based on existing structure and the style guide.
* Create UI experiences that promote ease of use and optimize the user experience.
* Breakdown complex requirements and concepts into well‐thought visual designs and workflows.
Required Skills
* US citizen and ability to pass a background investigation.
* At least 3 years of experience as a user experience designer, website designer, or similar role.
* Experience contributing or leading UI/UX design efforts, to include user research, user testing, requirements gathering, UI design, and UI implementation.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to simplify complex concepts with concise communication.
* Understanding business needs and the ability to work with users and the customer to derive requirements for projects, determine the feasibility of design within time and cost constraints, and translate those into a final product.
* Excellent interpersonal and client-focused skills – interacts well with all levels of staff and partners with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
* Desire to work in a collaborative and team-focused environment.
* Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and a solid troubleshooting ability.
* Conceptual understanding of User Interface Design and the Design Process.
* Intermediate to advanced user of Adobe Xd.
* Intermediate to advanced user of Microsoft Office 365.
* Intermediate level and thorough understanding of HTML, CSS and Bootstrap.
* Understanding of responsive design techniques and up-to-date with recent design standards and trends.
* A solid portfolio of work demonstrating experience creating user‐centered design solutions.
* Ability to work collaboratively with developers, project managers, and cross‐functional teams to ensure that designs are successfully created and implemented to achieve user goals.
* Experience creating UI specs, wireframes, and mockups.
* Flexibility and willingness to move from idea, to wireframe, to mockup quickly.
* Participates in testing, validating own and others’ functionality.
Desired Skills
* Experience working within an Agile environment or in a software development life cycle.
* Experience working with Azure services or cloud project management technologies.
* 508 expertise and or certification.
* Experience maintaining style guides.
