Position: Government Affairs Manager

Your role in our success:
The Governmental Affairs Manager is responsible for initiating, developing, and preserving key governmental relationships with federal, state, and local officials and staff, as well as business and community leaders to successfully support and achieve business unit goals and objectives. The incumbent will provide recommendations on local and state policy initiatives, and political activities that impact Chesapeake’s business units.
What you’ll be working on…
1. Establishes and maintains relationships with federal, state, and local elected officials in Delaware.
2. Develops governmental relationships with other utility companies, agencies, and associations.
3. Participates in the communication of the natural gas advocacy campaign.
4. Maintains the governmental/political and community outreach strategy playbook plan and assignments.
5. Researches and prepares for political environments ahead of business development.
6. Drafts and monitors business, energy and regulatory legislation impacting Chesapeake.
7. Provides legislative support for new business and regulatory initiatives, as needed.
8. Attends political and other activities in our service territories.
9. Drafts and delivers presentations on legislative activities.
10. Performs all other duties as assigned by Governmental Affairs Director.
Who you are...
1. Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications or Business
2. Five (5) years of political experience in lobbying or communications experience.
3. Standard Driver’s License
4. High level awareness of the legislative process.
5. Excellent communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.
6. Intermediate skill in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
7. Ability to effectively speak publicly and deliver presentations.
8. Ability to effectively build and maintain relationships.
