Have you always wanted to be a Dietitian? Do you have the drive to learn and earn while you start your career in Dietetics? Then come and join us as an Apprentice Dietitian. Over 3 years you will work towards gaining a BSc (Hons) Dietetics from Teesside University using remote academic and work-based learning, while undertaking the day-to-day role as a dietetic apprentice at Bristol Royal Infirmary. You will be fully supported to develop your skills over the duration of the apprenticeship. Following successful graduation, you will be able to register with the UK statutory regulator (Health Care Professions Council, HCPC) as a Dietitian.
Previous experience as a support worker or role in healthcare will be advantageous. On-the-job training will be provided by the dietetic teams to enable you to meet the main duties of an apprentice dietitian. These duties are to help ensure individual patients meet their nutritional requirements; work with wards and catering teams to provide appropriate nutrition and help dissemination, training and education of staff on matters linked to nutrition and hydration. You will therefore need to have good written and verbal communication skills and a passion to work with patients, families and their carers.
Main duties of the job
The dietetic team includes registered dietitians and dietetic support workers. As an apprentice dietitian, you will be a member of the Food Policy team. You will provide support to the registered dietitians while gaining experience across teams/pathways at UHBW.
You must have and be able to provide certificates for English and maths (GCSE grade 4 or above) or functional skills at Level 2. Additionally, you need to have three A-levels (including biology or human biology) or the equivalent.
Interviews will be conducted in a 2-stage process; the successful candidate will need to meet the interview criteria for both UHBW and Teesside University. The university course starts May 2025 and employment at UHBW will start prior to this date once recruitment is fully completed.
Due to the dedication and time required to undertake the role of an apprentice, this job is not suitable for part-time hours and requires a working week of 37.5 hours. You will need to be organised and be prepared to study in your own time, but you will be allocated 1 day a week for university or self-directed study.
Please note that UK apprentice eligibility criteria will be applied in shortlisting for this vacancy and only eligible candidates will be invited to interview.
