Job overview
This is a key opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual who has a flair for working in adult inpatient mental health. The post holder will positively promote and develop a consistent, safe and high-quality service for our staff, patients and carers and have a commitment to the delivery of outstanding care for our patients.
They will be an integral part of The Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Autism In-Patient, Culture of Care Quality Transformation Plan, which is an exciting development to improve the quality and safety of care people experience in mental health, learning disabilities and autism in-patient settings by implementing a new reimagined model of care.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the clinical lead Consultant Psychiatrists, in ensuring that the wards are safe and a learning culture is fostered.
The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring optimum performance within the team, monitoring of service quality and developing services to meet national and local policies, targets and evidence-based practice.
Excellent communication and motivation skills are essential, as is the ability to promote strong leadership, demonstrating both our Trust values and our culture of compassionate care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Matron will manage nursing staff, clerical/administrative staff together with those who support care delivery. The Matron will ensure that national and service quality standards relating to the ward/unit environment and non-clinical support services are monitored and reported on. The Matron will be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas providing assistance, advice and support to staff, patients, relatives, carers and visitors.

Qualifications
* Registered with the NMC Level 1
* Enb998/SLICE or Mentorship qualification
* Degree/Masters in specialist field or appropriate experience
* Recognised senior management training in leadership, policy or strategy
Experience
* Previous experience of managing a multi-disciplinary staff team, including line management, supervision responsibility and operational management of services at band 7 or equivalent
* Experience of re-provisioning services and managing staff through change
* Experience of multi-professional collaboration at senior level, including partnership working with other agencies
* Experience of service development
* Experience managing budgets
* Experience writing reports and delivering presentations to a high standard and to senior staff
* Experienced in involving service users and their carers in service planning and monitoring
* Experience in IT skills, familiar with word processing, excel and email systems
* Experience of representing services at different organisations
* Experience of managing Adult Mental Health services
Knowledge
* Able to demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of current Mental Health Policy issues including the Mental Health Act
* Able to demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge of nursing developments, especially in mental health
* Ability to provide high-quality nursing advice
* Ability to build and develop teams of people and to provide strong leadership to a diverse workforce
* Ability to identify problems and use initiative and creativity in problem solving
* Ability to manage pressure and changing and conflicting priorities effectively
* Able to influence and use negotiation skills and the ability to manage differences constructively
* A demonstrable ability to work closely with a range of stakeholders and other providers in helping plan the future of service provision

* Able to demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding practice for both vulnerable adults and children
