Job overview
King’s College NHS Foundation Trust has a large Therapy department with 300+ staff from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy. Each service is organised under a Head of Profession with a Chief of Therapies heading up the service and representing Therapies across the Trust. The department has well-established traditions of supporting learning and development, ensuring all staff are given opportunities to develop skills and knowledge to reach their full potential.
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated HCPC registered occupational therapists to join our comprehensive band 5 rotational scheme. The rotation posts are 6 months in duration and offer the opportunity to increase clinical skills and knowledge in a wide variety of clinical areas across many physical health specialities.
Main duties of the job
The band 5 rotation at the Princess Royal University Hospital includes the following rotations:
* Acute Medicine
* Trauma and Elective Orthopaedics
* Stroke Unit
* Older Adults
* A&E/ AMU
* Elective Surgery
* Neuro Rehabilitation
The post holder will ensure high quality service for all patients requiring Occupational Therapy. They will carry a caseload of complex patients using evidence-based practice and client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. The post holder will be required to develop links with other departments and facilitate a multidisciplinary team approach. A flexible approach to working is required, including weekend commitments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
* To assess and treat patients with complex needs who would benefit from specialist intervention provided by an Occupational Therapist, both in a hospital and in community settings.
* To prioritise and accept appropriate referrals.
* To plan, organise and implement appropriate treatment programs.
* To complete and record risk assessments appropriately and act upon this.
* To implement treatment within local guidelines, Royal College of Occupational Therapy standards and clinical governance.
* To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with clients and carers, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
* To select evidence-based techniques as part of a coordinated treatment program.
* To reflect on treatment provided and adapt treatment accordingly.
* To advise clients and carers on specific aids, equipment and adaptations and recommend provisions.
* To respect the individuality, values, culture and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
* To work as an autonomous practitioner and display appropriate problem-solving, analytical and judgement skills.
* To comply with all relevant trust policies, procedures and guidelines, including those relating to equal opportunities, health and safety and confidentiality of information.
Communication and Documentation
* To communicate complex information to patients who may have barriers to understanding.
* To communicate complex and emotive information to patients’ families and carers, and support discussions and decisions around care planning and discharge.
* To make appropriate clinical observations and keep accurate records of assessments and interventions in accordance with local and national guidelines.
* To compile clear assessment reports and recommendations for future care, for the multi-disciplinary team and other external agencies.
* To actively contribute and coordinate multi-disciplinary working, including client-related meetings e.g. case conference.
Service Development
* To have an awareness of service development initiatives and support projects within the team as required.
Professional Ethics
* To comply with the RCOT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and national and local policies and procedures.
Professional Development
* To demonstrate ongoing personal development through participation in internal and external development opportunities, recording learning outcomes in a portfolio.
Research
* To broaden research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects as required.
GENERAL
The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well-being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

Qualifications
* Dip RCOT or Degree State Registration
* HCPC registered or applied for
* Experience of working with medical patients
* Experience of working in an acute setting
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
