Main duties of the job
York Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is a friendly, medium-sized ED within a large teaching hospital. It has an annual attendance of over 100,000 patients of which approximately 17% are children below the age of 17 years. The department serves a wide and varied catchment area in and around the City of York, and manages the full range of ED patients including major trauma, minor injury, acute medical, paediatric and psychiatric presentations. It is a tertiary referral centre for vascular surgery, acute stroke, ENT, maxfax and ophthalmology. York ED is a designated trauma unit with strong links with the major trauma centres of Hull and Leeds.
The Emergency Department consists of a fully-equipped eight bay resuscitation room, 14 majors cubicles, 10 rapid assessment and treatment cubicles and a 5 chair "fit to sit" area. In addition, there is a Rapid Access Frailty Assessment area, staffed by a senior geriatrician from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Our emergency department is co-located with our local Urgent Treatment Centre & OOH GP service. Between us, we see over 100,000 patients per year.
We are committed to sustainable job plans & ensuring that colleagues' aspirations & development are supported no matter what stage of their career they are at.
