THE SENIOR PLATFORM ENGINEER ROLE: In this role, you'll be immersed in high-stakes projects to support digital transformation within the UK Government, working in an agile team environment and partnering with fellow engineers to deliver resilient, scalable, and user-focused services. Cross-functional Engineering Projects: Participate in or lead collaborative, cross-functional projects to build and continuously improve critical digital infrastructure, focusing on performance, scalability, and security. Cutting-edge Technologies: Implement the UK Government's IT vision using open-source technology, cloud platforms like AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps methodologies. Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage directly with both internal and external stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into user-friendly solutions and strategic actions. Continuous Development: Leverage a full suite of learning resources (e.g., Linux Academy, A Cloud Guru) and gain industry-recognised certifications, with opportunities to participate in tech meetups, hackathons etc SENIOR PLATFORM ENGINEER - ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Technical Expertise: Proficiency in AWS (preferably with certifications like SysOps, Developer, or Architect) and hands-on experience in infrastructure automation with tools like Terraform. Configuration Management: Familiarity with configuration management tools, ideally Puppet, to manage and scale deployments. Scripting and Coding: Strong coding skills in at least one of Ruby, Go, or Python, plus an aptitude for developing automation solutions. CI/CD and Automation: A comprehensive understanding of CI environments (e.g., Jenkins, Bamboo) and orchestration tools to facilitate and streamline the deployment process. Linux Mastery: Deep knowledge of Linux systems (e.g., RHEL/CentOS), plus experience in troubleshooting within a multi-server, high-availability environment. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels. Desirable skills include: Experience with the following technologies will further strengthen your application: Core Networking and Load Balancing: Strong understanding of network infrastructure and load balancing fundamentals Containerisation: Practical experience with Docker (Swarm or Kubernetes) for container orchestration and management.
