We currently have a need to expand our Product Management team and are looking to hire a dynamic, passionate and experienced Technical Author.
In this role, you will be part of the team responsible for producing the technical documentation that supports our range of onboard electronics. You will revise and originate data sheets and technical manuals that comply with rail and rolling stock standards and our own corporate format for customer-facing documents. Your output will communicate clearly to a range of users to facilitate the safe and efficient installation, operation and maintenance of our products. HaslerRail’s on-board electronics are best in class and this standard continues into our documentation deliverables.
Key deliverables:
* Technical data sheets for hardware and software products
* Operating instructions
* Installation and maintenance manuals
* Service and repair manuals
* Electronic turnover packages (ETOPs)
* Marketing material (occasional)
Your main day activities and objectives:
* Researching, writing and illustrating technical product support material including installation, operation and maintenance procedures
* Planning allocated work to ensure that tasks are completed on time in line with departmental objectives and KPIs
* Liaising with design engineers to obtain source information: engineering drawings, parts lists, HMI screenshots etc.
* Transcribing technical subject matter and industry jargon into easily understood text
* Writing clearly and concisely ensuring consistency in terminology to avoid ambiguity and subsequent doubt and confusion for the reader
Requirements
Required skills and experience:
* Relevant educational qualifications (minimum HNC Mechanical / Electrical Engineering)
* Excellent command of the English language: spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax
* At least four years experience in a technical authoring role in a multi-disciplined product / projected technology business
* Experience in interpreting design documentation: schematic diagrams, architecture diagrams, technical specifications, arrangement drawings etc. in order to extract relevant source information
* The ability to discuss technical issues with hardware/software engineers and understand and absorb information quickly
* Experience with Adobe InDesign
* An analytical mind, keen attention to detail and a desire to learn
* The interpersonal skills needed to complement the dynamic of the existing team and to demonstrate expected behaviours and standards
* Ability to perform peer reviews
Good to have skills and experience:
* Competence in another European language
* Knowledge of the rolling stock industry, railway network operations and associated standards and directives
* Experience in using the Adobe Creative Suite to generate documents
* Good level of competence with Microsoft products
* Experience with Siemens Polarion
