As a Back End Engineer, you’ll analyze, develop, and design solutions for our application software. In our Agile environment, you’ll perform technical design, coding with test automation, support, and documentation of software application modifications. Through continuous integration, development, and testing, you’ll ensure we deliver quality code. You will actively manage and escalate risk and customer-impacting issues within your day-to-day role to management.
This engineer role will be hands-on, working within an agile scrum team to deliver software solutions from inception to production covering the whole SDLC. The role is strategic in the growth and technical advancement of the Digital Payments platform at Discover. The software you help build will be consumed directly by Discover cardholders at speed and scale.
Responsibilities:
1. Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production.
2. Tend to Associate Application Engineers by providing learning tasks as well as work-related tasks, directing the work of Senior Associate Application Engineers, and helping them continue to grow.
3. Achieve team commitments (and influence others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills.
4. Oversee design decisions and guide the team to achieve key results for products assigned to them.
5. Remediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions for potential failures.
6. Contribute to and lead technology communities at Discover.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
* Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related.
* Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bonus Points If You Have:
JavaSE 8 or above development experience.
* Microservices development experience.
* Digital payments experience.
* Experience with testing frameworks such as Junit/Mockito/Gatling.
* SQL/NoSQL knowledge.
* RESTful APIs experience.
* Kafka experience.
* OpenShift/Kubernetes knowledge.
* Helm Charts experience.
* AWS knowledge.
* Jenkins experience.
* Git knowledge.
