Are you passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives? Do you have the skills and patience to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? If so, we want to hear from you!
As an SEMH teaching assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to provide tailored support to students aged 11-16 who face social, emotional and mental health challenges. You will be instrumental in helping students engage with their education, develop resilience and thrive both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
* Assist with classroom activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment
* Help students manage their emotions and behaviour using de-escalation techniques
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff to implement EHCP’s and support strategies
* Promotes students’ emotional wellbeing and encourage positive behaviour and social interactions
* Monitor student progress and report back to the SENCO and teachers
What we’re looking for:
* Experience working with young people with SEMH or other special educational needs in a school, youth work or care setting
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
* A calm, patient and nurturing approach to supporting young people
* The ability to manage challenging behaviour in a constructive and non-confrontational way
* Flexibility, resilience and a passion for improving the lives of young people
* Desirable: Relevant qualifications: (e.g level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant)
