Role Summary:
As a Principal Ecologist, you will lead the ecological team, overseeing the delivery of high-quality ecological surveys, impact assessments, and conservation projects. Your expertise will guide strategic planning, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while driving positive biodiversity outcomes. You will collaborate with stakeholders, mentor junior team members, and contribute to TayGreen’s sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Project Management:
* Manage ecological projects from conception to completion, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
* Lead and mentor a team of ecologists, fostering professional development.
Ecological Surveys & Assessments:
* Plan and conduct habitat and species surveys, including protected species assessments.
* Oversee the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs).
Strategic Input:
* Develop and implement biodiversity action plans aligned with TayGreen’s sustainability goals.
* Advise on land use, renewable energy projects, and estate management practices.
Stakeholder Engagement:
* Build strong relationships with clients, regulators, and conservation organizations.
* Represent TayGreen in public consultations and professional forums.
Requirements:
* Education: A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master’s/Ph.D. preferred).
* Experience:
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in ecological consulting or conservation.
* Proven track record in managing complex ecological projects.
* Technical Skills:
* Expertise in protected species legislation and ecological impact assessments.
* Proficiency in GIS and ecological modeling tools.
* Certifications: Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent.
* Personal Attributes:
* Strong leadership and organizational skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Working Hours & Holiday:
* Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible start and finish times.
