Band 5 Specialist Dental Nurse - Orthodontics/Radiography
Job Overview
Are you looking for a new and exciting position to support patient pathways and clinical excellence? We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking Specialist Dental Nurse to join the Orthodontic team at Birmingham Dental Hospital.
The Orthodontic department consults and treats a variety of specialist cases with a mix of fixed and removable appliances, as well as treating patients who require orthognathic surgery in collaboration with the Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons.
The post-holder must hold a Dental Radiography certificate or Orthodontic post qualification and be up to date with their CPD log.
The post-holder must be flexible as travel to other sites/locations for service continuity within the division may be required.
The post is advertised for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and the post holder will be required to support evening and weekend activity.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social, and medical needs.
2. Stock control/rotation and the ordering of dental consumables as required from appropriate suppliers.
3. Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.
4. Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments (e.g., height, weight, and blood pressure).
5. Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
6. Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.
7. Identify relevant staff & students who require additional training within the specialty & escalate as appropriate.
8. Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy, and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.
9. Adhere to procedures to support and maintain achieving national targets of compliance.
10. Ensure to implement agreed, local Divisional and Trust Policies.
11. Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.
Person Specification
Education
* Post Qualification in Dental Radiography/Orthodontic Nursing
* GDC Registration
* Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or Equivalent
Experience
* Experience in Specialism
* Significant Experience in a wide range of dentistry
* Evidence of CPD
* Leadership/Management Experience
* Clinical Audit/QSIR Experience
* Evidence of informal and formal assessment experience
Skills & Knowledge
* Evidence understanding of clinical stock management
* Evidence of ability to lead a team in a clinical environment
* Evidence of dealing with complex situations (e.g., patient complaints/concerns)
* Adaptable and responsive to change
* Ability to create & deliver training materials (e.g., PowerPoint Presentations/Tutorials)
