We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Fuel Performance Lead to be involved in a game-changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.
The Performance Lead will be responsible for developing fuel performance criteria for RR SMR; PCI limits, Fission gas pressure, FIV, and other fuel-related limits including Fault analysis (e.g. RAPFE, PCMI, LOCA fuel integrity). The Performance Lead will have knowledge of fuel mechanical design including FA structure, top and bottom nozzle, mixing grids, and RCCAs.
The applicant will work closely with the core analysis teams, predominantly using the results of core and fuel performance analysis to inform and develop the Fuel design. You will ensure that the tools and methods used are fit for purpose and sufficiently validated for use in their domain. You will support regulator engagement, enabling the demonstration that safety targets are met.
Key selection criteria:
1. Fuel Performance Analysis Methods: Experience in performing fuel performance analysis and knowledge of the fuel performance fundamentals.
2. Nuclear Industry Domain Knowledge: Experience of dealing with fuel vendors. Understanding of Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) design, plant and behaviour including fault/accident systems, phenomena, and chemistry.
3. Nuclear Safety Analysis and Safety Cases: Experience of dealing with fuel vendors. Understanding of PWR design, plant and behaviour including fault/accident systems, phenomena, and chemistry.
4. Technical Task Delivery: Definition of a project/programme of work. Delivery of programme milestones in line with agreed plans and budgets. Experience in management of complex risks. Monitoring of progress and project management. Technical writing and communication.
