Role Overview: Our Leicestershire based clients require a health & safety assistant to support the Health & Safety Manager with the day-to-day operations of the workshop and offices, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations in a full-time and permanent role.
The role:
1. Assisting the H&S Manager with maintaining H&S standards, managing compliance, and supporting with related administrative tasks.
2. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures.
3. Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
4. Monitor and update risk assessments to ensure full compliance with regulations.
5. Support our operational team with writing safe operating procedures (SOPs) which identify and consider all relevant hazards.
6. Liaise closely with the Team Leaders and Managers regarding matters of concern in connection with health and safety and support with corrective actions/solutions.
7. Support with data and analysis of workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
8. Assist in investigating health and safety incidents, compiling reports, and making recommendations for corrective actions.
9. Support regular safety audits and inspections to ensure safety protocols are effective.
10. Maintain accurate documentation of health and safety compliance and audit results.
11. Promote a proactive health and safety culture among employees.
12. Participate in health and safety committee meetings, and accurately record and distribute minutes.
13. Keep up-to-date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry.
14. Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g., fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases.
The person:
1. A minimum of one to two years’ work experience in Health and Safety, ideally within the Manufacturing or Construction sector.
2. Ideally NEBOSH qualified in Occupational Health & Safety (General Certificate).
3. Must be self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude.
4. Be able to work on their own initiative.
5. Have excellent planning, time management, and organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task.
6. A collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
