UPS Engineer Role- London About the Role: Kingston Barnes is recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading provider of power protection solutions, for a skilled UPS Service Engineer to join their field service team. This is a home-based, field engineer position responsible for commissioning, maintaining, repairing, and occasionally modifying a range of power protection products, including battery-backed rotary UPS systems, diesel UPS systems, static UPS systems, and frequency converters. This role requires a high degree of flexibility, as our client provides essential 24/7 support to customers. Regular weekend work, occasional night shifts, and on-call duties are part of the role. The successful candidate must be prepared to travel across the UK and occasionally to Europe, sometimes at short notice. Key Responsibilities: Perform commissioning, maintenance, and repair of UPS systems and associated power protection products. Operate and troubleshoot power electronics, including rectifiers, inverters, and rotating machines. Manage job preparation, ensuring all necessary tools, spares, and equipment are available. Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Maintain accurate service records and complete electronic and paper-based documentation. Ensure compliance with safety procedures, permits for work, and risk assessments. Work on a 5 from 7-day schedule, including weekend shifts and occasional night work. Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota, with a requirement to join within 6 months of employment. Candidate Requirements: Electrically biased maintenance/service engineer (3-phase experience essential). Experience with UPS systems or power electronics (preferred). Field service experience or motivation to work in field service. Electrical qualifications: ONC/HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent. Ability to use electrical hand tools and test equipment (clamp meters, insulation testers, oscilloscopes). Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Good written and verbal communication skills. The field engineers are employed on a 5 from 7-day contract which requires them to work, on average, every other weekend with 2 other days off scheduled during the week. This is planned well in advance A high degree of flexibility is required to enable us to keep pace with the ever-changing demands of our customer base. We cannot stress enough that this is not a ‘9 to 5’ job and requires a person who can cope with sudden change of routine and who must occasionally be prepared to work away at short notice. Some of our customers require out of hours work so some night work will be required. Flexible approach to work, including overtime, weekend shifts, and overnight stays when required. Must hold a full UK driving licence. Must hold a full British passport and have been a UK resident for at least 5 years (for security clearance purposes). The Package: Salary: £45,000 15% shift allowance (£51,750) Company Van Overtime: Paid at 1.25x contracted hourly rate. On-Call Allowance: £45 per day when on call. Holidays: 23 days bank holidays (rising to 28 days with service). Company Pension Scheme (after qualifying period). Private Medical Scheme (after qualifying period).
