About the Role
As a Sign Services & Traffic Management Operative, you will provide an excellent delivery and collection service for temporary traffic management signage for the Highway Delivery workforce. Your work will also support the provision of highway maintenance, construction, forestry, and street lighting activities where stop/go boards are required to direct the flow of traffic. You are responsible for safe temporary traffic management provisions for the site.
The nature of the work may involve you carrying out activities outside of normal working hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, in all weather conditions to meet the needs of the service. You may be required to support a call-out rota to cover evening, weekend, and public holiday emergencies. [Exclusion will apply to employees aged under 21].
This role is a “Safety Critical Post” and, consequently, subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. A copy of our Substance Misuse Policy and Procedure is available upon request.
About You
To apply for this post, you must:
* Have the following qualifications:
o New Roads and Street works Act (NRSWA) Qualification (Operative)
o Valid Driving Licence; it would be ideal (but not essential), if you also have a valid Large Goods Vehicle Licence and CPC Trained with current DQC Card
o OR demonstrable evidence of the skills and experience as outlined in the Person specification, together with a commitment to attain the essential qualifications.
* Experience of working in a highways or civil engineering environment.
* Experience of the safe installation of Temporary Traffic Management, including road closures and diversions and the installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic control systems in a safe manner. Acting as banksman/signaller for other drivers.
* Extensive knowledge of safe working practices when using plant and machinery, construction Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements and safe working procedures and the code of Practice for Safety at Roadworks.
* Be able and willing to work with everyone in the team. You are self-motivated and well organized with the ability to use your own initiative in planning and prioritizing workload.
* Be able to respond confidently to customers & colleagues with understanding & diplomacy whilst maintaining an objective & professional stance and give customers the correct information and keep them up to date with regular contact.
* Be able to remain calm & positive in challenging circumstances, you can react quickly when the work environment requires, to make safety-related changes to temporary traffic management, independently of supervision and you can engage with proposals constructively & rigorously to help agree a way forward.
You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
