We are currently recruiting for a Subject Lead – History at an Ofsted-rated Outstanding Academy in Bradford, which is part of a highly successful Multi-Academy Trust. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed History educator to take on a leadership role and contribute to the continued success of the History department, while shaping the academic experiences of students across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and innovate in an academic environment where the highest standards of teaching and learning are expected. The role will involve shaping the direction of the History curriculum, supporting and developing staff, and ensuring that all students have access to an enriching and challenging history education.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Leadership: Lead the planning, development, and implementation of a robust and dynamic History curriculum, ensuring it is aligned with national standards and tailored to meet the needs of students at all levels. You will be responsible for creating a curriculum that is engaging, thought-provoking, and intellectually stimulating.
2. Staff Development: Provide leadership and direction to the History department, supporting colleagues with their teaching practice and professional growth. You will foster an environment of collaboration, where ideas are shared, and best practices are implemented to enhance student learning.
3. Student Achievement: Monitor and evaluate student performance, identifying areas for development and ensuring that all students make outstanding progress. You will be responsible for raising the profile of History within the school and ensuring that it is a subject in which students excel.
4. Quality Assurance: Implement effective systems for assessing, tracking, and reporting on student progress, ensuring that high standards of work are maintained across the department. You will also be expected to contribute to the school’s wider quality assurance processes.
5. Strategic Planning: Work closely with senior leadership to align the department’s goals with the wider vision and strategic objectives of the academy. You will actively contribute to the development of school policies and strategies, ensuring that History remains at the forefront of the school’s academic offerings.
6. Engagement with Parents and Stakeholders: Engage with parents and other stakeholders, keeping them informed about student progress, upcoming events, and opportunities for student enrichment.
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will be an experienced and forward-thinking History teacher with a passion for the subject and a commitment to high standards of education. You will possess strong leadership skills, have a clear vision for the development of History education, and be able to inspire and lead a team of History educators.
Key qualities include:
1. Proven experience in teaching History at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
2. A deep understanding of the curriculum and pedagogy, with the ability to develop and implement an engaging and challenging curriculum.
3. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
4. A track record of raising student achievement and improving educational outcomes.
5. The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
6. A passion for History and a commitment to inspiring students to develop a lifelong love of the subject.
