About the Role: Are you a graduate with aspirations to become a teacher? We have an exciting opportunity for graduates to gain invaluable classroom experience by working as Behaviour Mentors or Teaching Assistants in secondary schools. This role is ideal for those considering a career in education, providing a solid foundation before pursuing teacher training programs.
As a Behaviour Mentor or Teaching Assistant, you will support students with their learning, classroom engagement, and behaviour management. This experience will allow you to develop essential teaching skills while working alongside experienced educators, SEN specialists, and pastoral teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work one-to-one or in small groups to support students’ academic progress and classroom engagement.
2. Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons, ensuring all students remain engaged.
3. Implement behaviour management strategies and provide classroom support to students with additional needs.
4. Develop strong relationships with students, acting as a mentor and positive role model.
5. Help to design and deliver intervention programs to support student learning and behaviour.
6. Support school-wide initiatives to improve student engagement and well-being.
7. Gain first-hand experience of teaching strategies, lesson planning, and classroom management.
8. Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents where appropriate.
Requirements:
1. A degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Education, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, English, or Mathematics).
2. A strong interest in teaching and education, with aspirations to become a qualified teacher.
3. Previous experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, voluntary roles) is beneficial but not essential.
4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
5. Patience, resilience, and a proactive approach to supporting student learning and development.
6. A current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
